Referrals

Referral Information

Following the pandemic, waiting times for certain treatments are much longer than the NHS would normally like. Once the surgery has submitted a referral we are unable to trace the current waiting times for individuals and would recommend that you contact the service you have been referred to direct, or visit NHS: My Planned Care to get up to date information on waiting times for each hospital.

If you have been told you will be waiting longer than this, or you have not heard about an appointment, please contact the hospital Patient Advice & Liaison Services (PALS) on 01903 285032.

Please note we cannot expedite a referral unless you have new or worsening symptoms.

Below are some useful telephone numbers that you can call to obtain any available updates to your referral:

  • Urgent 28 day referrals - You will be sent a letter in the post with full contact details.
  • Referral Support Team (RST) - Telephone: 01903 708403. 11:00 – 14:00 (weekdays except Wednesdays)
  • MATT/MSK (Musculoskeletal/Pain Clinic/Joint Problems) - Telephone: 01243 865418 (weekdays)
  • Orthopaedics/Rheumatology – Telephone Referral Support Service (RSS) on 01293 300270 (Monday to Friday 09:00 to 16:00)
  • OneCall (Housebound patients) - Telephone: 01903 254789
  • Community Ultrasound Service (Sussex Medical Chambers) - Telephone: 01903 503447

NHS e-Referral Service

The NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) combines electronic booking with a choice of place, date and time for first hospital or clinic appointments. Patients can choose their initial hospital or clinic appointment, book it in the GP surgery at the point of referral, or later at home on the phone or online.

Using the service

If you're a patient, find out more about appointment booking on the NHS website.

Whether you're using e-RS for the first time, or an existing user wanting to make the most of the service, NHS Digital provides a range of material for referrers (such as a general practice), providers (a hospital or clinic) and commissioners.

Millions of patients on the waiting list for NHS care will be able to access support and check wait times at their fingertips thanks to a new online platform called My Planned Care.
